Todayโs scripture I find very important in todayโs social landscape. We live in a time where forces of evil have tried to divide us from each other and in so doing drive a wedge between God and ourselves. There is no one that is not worthy of Godโs love. And when we read this fear of God, we need to remember that this is not the fear as in afraid but a respect for God and all of His creation.
Too often we force God and creation into the box that makes us comfortable. Peter faced this same dilemma when God called him to go and witness to the Roman commander Cornelius and the repercussions he faced when he returned to the other apostles. (read Acts 10 and 11) We find ourselves facing similar situations today. Is there any who are not worthy for any reason, I think not. And if we find ourselves excluding another for their behaviors then we need to remember that all have fallen short of Godโs glory. But by the grace of God we are all saved and loved.
So, for the coming year let us find ways to open the table of Christ to all. That instead of condemning others for their perceived failings we open our hearts to love them for their teachings of us that God is in us all. When we see those that are marginalized by society, ostracized by the righteous, maybe we should thank God for using to show us how to love better, to serve rather than be served. Remembering what Peter realized that โGod does not show favoritismโ but loves all. And if we are to be followers of Christ then we must learn to do likewise.
